Sightseeing trips offer a unique opportunity to experience Kodiak from a whole new perspective—one that few get to enjoy.

Your adventure begins at the staging area in the American River parking lot, located at the head of Middle Bay. Just a scenic 20-minute drive south of Kodiak, this starting point sets the stage for an unforgettable journey.

You will get outfitted with waders, boots, rain jackets, and necessary gear for the trip. A detailed safety brief and trip breakdown will be explained to you before takeoff. After our brief we load all passengers and gear in our new state of the art UTV’s. The ride is a comfortable fun experience through the mountains of Kodiak. Our UTV’s tackle all the stream and river crossings with ease. Enjoy the scenery of the lush green mtns and the abundant colorful flowers of summer. Wildlife is always plentiful on the ride for our viewing pleasure.

After approximately 2hrs of travel we will have made it to the beautiful Saltery Cove nestled in Uyak bay. Saltery Cove is rich in wildlife ranging from Kodiak Brown Bears, Wild Horses, Sitka Black Tailed Deer, Beavers, Fresh Water Otters, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, and lots of different fish species. Many have described it as a birder’s paradise with an assortment of waterfowl, shore birds, sea birds, birds of prey, gulls, and forest birds.

We take our time to hit all the key points of interest in Saltery Cove area including a visit to the fish weir, where Alaska dept fish and game count the fish that escape to the lake. The weir is an ideal place to view bears and to learn about the importance of the weir and how it is a major tool for fish management.

After a few hours of excitement, a well-earned lunch break is taken in a location where you can really appreciate all of Kodiak’s majesty. Sit back and take it all in while you enjoy our delicious lunch that is provided.

The ride back is packed with just as much fun and excitement with a few stops at key points of interest along the way.

Our trips are approximately 6 hours in length and members are encouraged to bring quality cameras, binoculars, and optics.

Medication if needed, quality rain coat, camera with water proof case, polarized sunglasses, hat, bug repellant, bug head net, sun screen, light weight gloves, small pack for your gear, and layering for the temps.

We provide a fully equipped UTV, waders or hip boots if required, dry storage, lunch, water, and all necessary provisions to have a successful trip.

All clients are required to properly layer for the Alaskan temps. If you need help please contact us.

Our UTV’s are outfitted with all the necessary provisions to get you safely in and out of the field. Winch, recovery straps, spare tire, plug kits, tools, first aid kits, portable toilet seat, toiletry kits, lunch cooler, fish cooler, dry storage, communication equipment, and emergency response devices.

We run Honda Pioneer 1000/6 UTV’s. Our UTV’s are well maintained and kept in immaculate shape. After operating all the different manufacturers of UTV’s we have found the Honda to be the most reliable.

The 6-seater UTV can safely and comfortably seat 5 passengers and 1 driver.

We have multiple UTV’s that operate at different times. If we do experience issues with one of our UTV’s, we have a backup.

No, due to our insurance restrictions all clients will ride as passengers. Only our experienced guides are authorized to operate our UTV/ATV’s.

Lunch is provided on all trips except the self-guided trip. Lunch is delicious and fulfilling meal that is prepared by one of our local stores. It is comprised of a lunch meat sandwich, bag of chips, cut vegetables with dipping sauce, granola bar, and candy. Bottled water is provided as well.

The age limit minimum is 6 years of age and no max. We are a family-owned business and pride ourselves on providing quality family trips. If you have a child younger than the minimum please contact us.

A short 20-minute drive south of town is the American river parking lot and you will find our staging area. There we keep all our equipment and UTV’s. The staging area is where we meet our clients and start/end our trips. Enjoy our dry and clean space to don your waders out of the rain and mud.

We cannot guarantee that wildlife will be viewed but we commonly see Sitka Black Tailed Deer, Kodiak Brown Bears, Wild Horses, Mountain Goats, Beaver, Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Sea lions, Whales, Waterfowl, Birds, and Fish.

Yes, we commonly accommodate to professional photographers and film crews. We have plenty of room in our UTV’s for all your gear.

Yes, we take many birders (twitchers for our international friends) on this trip and spend all day in specific locations. Taking birders has been a unexpected gift of knowledge and awareness for Head Shakers and out guides.
